DAVID Tennant could be swapping sci-fi for fantasy by starring in a movie adaption of The Hobbit.
The Doctor Who star has been widely tipped for the role of Bilbo Baggins in the prequel of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of The Rings series.
Newspaper reports suggest the 38-year-old is up against Shameless actor James McAvoy and Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe.
Tennant has already been confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming St Trinian's movie.
He will play baddie Pomfrey in The Legend of Fritton's Gold alongside Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding.
The Scottish actor is due to hang up his sonic screwdriver later this year when 26-year-old Matt Smith takes up the Tardis' reigns.
